Just Some Life

Christmas shopping, laundry, hosting, work. Life, am I right? Sometimes, life is busy but hey, you're not alone. Today, we meet each other in the middle of the business of life, to be encouraged to keep going.

We are not super heroes. And I'm not just talking about James and myself, but all of us, collectively. However, if no one has told you lately, you certainly deserve the title. We might not be actual super heroes, but we certainly do a lot of things within the 24 hours we are given every day. Which frankly, I think that is pretty super. But the super hero life, that is to say life itself, can be very draining. Now, we have already discussed the importance of self-care a few times. Which is, indeed, extremely important. But it will not be our topic for today. Today, we come together to take a deep breath.

Yup, take a deep breath and give yourself a pat on the back for me because today I want to tell you how amazing you are doing. Too often, we look at our to-do list and find that it is just too long. How are we ever going to catch up? Believe me, I know this struggle all too well. 24 hours is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. And it is definitely not enough time to do everything we feel we need to do. Sleep 8 hours, work [at least] 8 hours, commute time to and from work, work out for at least 1 hour, eat 3 meals a day, grocery shop, chores, and and and and and... Breathe. I know, the list keeps going, but here's the thing, so do you. It might feel as if you are falling behind but wow, look at what you did accomplish. No matter how hard your day was, you still kept going and made it to this moment. That is an accomplishment that I cannot congratulate you on enough!

We face a lifetime of to do's, it is so easy to look at that and be overwhelmed. But turn around, take a look behind you and behold your trail of accomplishments. You might see some mistakes among them, but that's okay, you learned from those too. More importantly you survived them. So, let that breath go, release all that tension in your shoulders. You made it to this moment, rest in it for the moment and realize: you did it.

Don't get me wrong, we all still have a lot of work to do. I have a pile of laundry calling my name, personally, amongst my own long list. But it is important to recognize the hard work we put in every day, and that it does matter. Not only that, but also, we are not alone in this. Talk to every single person you see, they each have their own list, they each have their own battle. It is important we acknowledge each other's journey's. Because, contrary to popular belief, this life is not a race or competition. We are each walking our own paths, with many intersections where we can meet others, but not to compete. These intersections are solely for us to grow. What's a weird analogy I can give you? Be fertilizer, not a gopher. There- nailed it.

The point is, you are doing great. Do your self-care, make sure you take care of yourself, and when you are ready, take a deep breath, and get back to work. But this time, be proud of your work. Mistakes and all. Because it is all proof that you, my friend, are a super hero. And when you find that you can't feel proud, know that I am proud of you. Genuinely, I am so proud of you. I know how hard it can be to keep going sometimes, but you have fought to get here, and if you can make it to this point, you make conquer anything. The "to-do list" of life may be daunting, but just take it one step at a time. Keep breathing, keep moving, even if it is one step at a time. Movement, is movement. Don't you dare discount any of it. And when you can be proud, make sure you tell other's you're proud of them as well. Remember, be fertilizer!

Life can be tough, 24 hours can be short, and to-do lists can be long. Tonight, let's take a deep breath, and start a new tomorrow. I believe in you. Believe in me that I will get my laundry and Christmas shopping done. We are in December now people, I can see the finish line to 2019! No matter what this year was to you, let us all try our best to finish the year strong, no matter how that looks to each of us. We got this.

Thank you so much for tuning in for The Mess here on My Mess. I hope you all have a relaxing rest of your Sunday, have an amazing start to your week tomorrow. I, also, hope I will see you back here on Wednesday for some Nerdom. Remember, deep breaths and stay messy.
