Transitions

Just when you think you've settled into a rhythm, life has a way of shifting. Because of this, we are all called to adapt.

First of all, hi, it's good to be back. I apologize for my long absence from The Mess. I was in an anime induced rampage, but it's all good and I'm back now. See, there's adaptation right there. Change is all around us, and sometimes it effects us greatly- other times not so much, but it's there all the same. The little things that inconvenience us; the life-altering turn of events; they require our response in order to keep going. We move and adapt to each of them. I don't know about you, but personally, I have the audacity to act surprised every time.

You'd think I'd be quicker to the uptake, but I guess I'm slow to learn this lesson. I've been thinking about it a lot lately because we find ourselves at another big period of transition already; both in society and in my personal life. We are transitioning our countries leadership, we are transitioning our responses to the pandemic as vaccines role out, people in Illinois are transitioning to their terrible winter driving...change all around! For our household, James recently received a promotion that will require some travel. This is something he's worked towards for years and we are very excited and happy, but there's transition needed.

Even when good news comes, you need to learn to adapt- and change, no matter how, good can still be hard for some people. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you don't get stuck. So how do you prevent that? To be honest, I don't have an answer I'm satisfied with yet. But I think that there is some wise words to be found in Inuyasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass-

Keep moving or you'll get caught again! -Kagome Higurashi

Sorry, I just watched it again recently and it stuck with me. She's right though, we might not have a solution to our situation but we have to keep moving in order to find it. Plus, I like the idea of that better than the thought of standing around sinking waiting for a solution that may never come to where I am. I would much rather go find it, that would be much faster, less agonizing and more accurate anyway. I would also say that another good idea besides "keeping moving" is also simply this: communicate. Communication with those around you when you're in a time of change can make or break a transition. You need communication so there are no misunderstandings and also in case they can somehow help. No one said we had to be alone while things change, so why add to the struggle unnecessarily?

2021 is full of change already, and I have no doubt that it holds more for all of us. With that being said I hope your transitions lead you to a wonderful new chapter. If you find the answer to how to take on such things without worry, let me know, and I promise to do the same. In the mean time, keep adapting, keep changing, and keep growing.

Thank you so much for joining me for this long awaited return to The Mess. I loved having you here on this snowy evening. If it's not snowing were you are, please keep it to yourselves as the rest of us bury ourselves in. Despite that, I do hope you have a wonderful week and start off strong! Do something nice for yourself tomorrow (Monday's are hard)! I will see you back Wednesday for some Nerdom! Until then stay safe and stay messy friends.
