Alli Predicts- Part Five: Sk8 The Infinity

I'm trying to separate the immense number of isekai's we have to talk about, so today we are jumping into a Chase favorite- sports anime!

I was so excited when I saw there were two sports anime in the running this year, and this is easily one to keep your eye on! This show got a lot of hype, quickly, and has stayed a favorite this year so far, so we are bound to see these boys at the awards!

If you've been around My Mess long enough, you'll know that sports anime is the genre of choice for Chase and I's sister bonding time. So I was thrilled when Sk8 the Infinity came out! The premise is simple. Langa, a half Canadian/half Japanese, teenager moves to Okinawa Japan after his father's death. Shortly after arriving he meets a classmate named Reki who brings him into the world of skateboarding. While he has never skateboarded in his life, he enters a dangerous race on the thought that his many years of snowboarding experience will carry him through. From there we follow Langa and Reki as they're continuously challenged in both their friendship and their love of skating.

I realize we are kind just diving right in here, but honestly, this review is pretty simple. It's great. The animation is incredible, the soundtrack was very nice, the characters were fun and the really focused look at Langa and Reki's relationship was adorable and refreshing. This show combined all the nice qualities of a sports anime with slice of life and shojo. Not only that, but what is actually most impressive to me is that the anime is an original! If you look it up you will find two manga's for it, but both came out AFTER the anime. You don't see that very often anymore and it somehow adds a little magic to it all. Magic others must be feeling too, because it is also receiving a stage play, which seems to really be becoming a normal occurrence with popular animes these past couple years. It is because of all these things and more that they really should be rewarded for their efforts!

I definitely believe, based on fan reception alone, that this show will be nominated. Though we still don't know our categories, if we go based on last years, I can see them being nominated for: Best Boy, Best Opening Sequence, Best Ending Sequence, Best Animation, and possibly even Best Couple. Calm- I will explain: though not formally announced, Reki and Langa seem to be most widely accepted as a couple, surprising since it is coming from Studio Bones, but they do meet the criteria to earn themselves a nomination in Best Couple, which is why I say "possibly". Now, I don't believe they will get nominated for all of these but they are viable candidates for each category. The one I feel strongest about though would be Best Opening Sequence, and as of this moment, they are my pick for the win on that category. I love both of their sequences, opening and ending, and would very much like to see their name on the board!

If you are interested in checking out Sk8 the Infinity, you can stream it on Funimation. Crunchyroll has announced that nominees will be announced the same day as voting opens which is January 18th. So, we have three more weeks to talk over some other key competitors before we find out who actually made it to the awards! I hope you are all as excited as I am! Award season, HERE WE COME!

Thank you so much for tuning in for this pre-Christmas review! I hope everyone is surviving the holidays. Covid numbers are on the rise again, so make sure you're safe and healthy! We will not be around this Sunday, but you can see us back on Wednesday for Part 6 of Alli Predicts here on Nerdom. I hope to see you then, but in the mean time, stay safe, stay nerdy, and stay messy otaku!
