They really waited till the last minute to provide updates on Mo Dao Zu Shi's third season. But at last an update is here! And soon, the season will be too.

Not just the season but the series finale. Couldn't hold that bomb in, could ya? -No peanut gallery, I could not, it was too heavy of a burden honestly. So yes, along with the release date of season three, they also announced that this would be the shows final season. This news rattled me, and hurt my heart quite a bit, since I was anticipating the show to take at least four or five seasons. Instead, we meet our end at three...

I'm struggling with this because the trailers thus far have focused a lot on Yi City, which is the FIRST big arch of the books main timeline. It made sense to me that season three would entirely take place in Yi City, but now, knowing this is the finale, they are going to have to cut things down A LOT. As sad as that is, I am actually trying really hard to remain positive, because I feel-- Wait, wait, wait! Let's back it up a bit, I jumped way too ahead of myself. Let's take a minute to clue new readers into what we're talking about!

Mo Dao Zu Shi [or, roughly translated, The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation] is a Chinese series that I am utterly in love with. I covered it in a two part review last year, because the series has five different adaptations. In my first review, I cover the original novel series and the manhua (the Chinese webcomic). In my second review, I cover the anime, the live action, and the chibi anime spin off. This story takes place in a world where there are all manners of things that go bump in the night and the only thing that can stop them are Cultivators. People who possess spiritual power and fight evil, which is funny because what do you do when a Cultivator turns evil? At the start of the journey we are told that the great Wei Wuxian, the worlds current "big bad", has finally been slain. The rest of the cultivation world takes many precautions to make sure that he's dead and stays dead. Peace returns to the land and soon he seems like nothing more than a story to tell your children at night. Until 16 years later, when Wei Wuxian finds himself waking up in a run down shake, very much alive.

Be warned, if you decide to embark on this adventure, you are choosing to face many hard questions and even harder answers. What is right and wrong? Who defines good and evil? What actually happened 16 years ago that led to death of the evil patriarch? This story follows a murder mystery format and takes place over two different timelines: the past and the present. Which begs the question: will Wei Wuxian get to have a future? FIND OUT ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGON BALL Z! (That's a joke, don't sue me.)

So, now you know. This is one of my favorite series and it is jam packed with twists, magic, epic fight scenes, and the messy reality of love and loss. The anime, does not follow the original story but is still a wild ride that I look forward to enjoying till the end, and hope you'll join me! The entire series is on YouTube, and the third [not to mention final] season will begin airing August 7th, with one episode a week. There is also whispers that the entire series will be receiving an English dub at either the end of this year or beginning of next year. This is HUGE news and is starting to give me big hopes about the books getting published here. Either way, use the next 3 weeks to catch up on Mo Dao Zu Shi so we can ring in the new season together! Because as I was saying earlier, I feel like it will still be a story worth hearing until the end.

Speaking of ends, let's end on an exciting note! Here's a sneak peak at some of the season three's promotional character posters! Yi City, here we come!

Try not to break my heart this go around, 'kay?

Thank you for tuning in to this installment of Nerdom! I am so excited to be getting Mo Dao Zu Shi back, though I am sure my family is not ready to hear me rave about it again quite yet. Meh, they need to look at it this way, it's a break in my many rants about My Hero Academia! No matter what I'm ranting about, let's finish out our weeks strong! I will see you back on Sunday for The Mess and Rantt! In the mean time, stay safe, stay nerdy, and stay messy otaku!
