The Low On Mo

This is late! I know! The Mo Dao Zu Shi season three premier has come and gone... and here are my very delayed thoughts on it!

I want to clarify that though this is late, these thoughts are solely on the premier episode. I am after all a strict believer in first, midseason, and final thoughts. With that being said, what even are my first thoughts?
Confused. My first thoughts are that I am very, very confused. We have known since season one that this show was not following the books, but knowing that this is the final season and that it looks like they intend to do the entire Yi City arch leaves me...well...confused? Don't get me wrong Yi City is extremely important and one of my favorite side stories that we get, but do we have the time? Is this where we end it? Really? THERE IS SO MUCH MORE! UGH!
Take a deep breath and set time aside for a moment, so we can ask ourselves: what are they going to do with Yi City? Here we are at episode one and everything is already wonky. I am forgiving of the fact that they are not following the books, only because I feel it in my bones that we will one day get a reboot (someone contact Crunchyroll Original's please), BUT I can't help but feel [ever since last season] we have gotten wildly off track and I can no longer really see where things are going. Granted, the live action did this as well and still had a great reception. I guess I just didn't want to see things go so south, especially not leading up to the end. Because at this point, what is "the end" even going to look like?
One thing that does has me excited about this season is...I think we are actually going to get the love story aspect of the original story, which thus far has been lost in all the other adaptations. Now, again, we are only going off of what we have seen from season one, two, and the first episode of season three. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but dang-it, IT'S TOO LATE, my hopes are indeed up.
The animation is beautiful as always (minus the weird CGI I hate), the score is also lovely as ever. To those notes, I cannot complain. I guess all that's left to do is see where this goes. Which means, it's time for YOU to go check out Mo Dao Zu Shi and meet back here for our midseason review! I'd be happy to compare notes!
Bonus thought: Pre-Order's are still open for the original novel's official English publication. An additional warning that the original novel series is rated X for extreme sexual content and graphic violence. [I do not recommend this series to anyone under the age of 18 or anyone light hearted]
Thank you for joining me on our first night back from our mini vacation hiatus! I've missed Nerdom, and I've missed you! I hope you're having an excellent week, finish strong! We will be back this Sunday with Rantt and The Mess. I hope to see you there! But in the meantime, stay safe, stay nerdy, and stay messy otaku!
