*Screaming Intensified*

The screaming started in December when a certain author walked into a meeting to discuss a reboot. The screaming peaked this week when the same author confirmed that dreams do come true.

An absolute miracle happened this week when Rick Riordan announced that Percy Jackson and The Olympian's [PJO] would be receiving it's much deserved reboot. This was certainly big news here in our household, as we are all huge Riordanverse fans. Not only has his universe been the focus of Family Book Club, but Riordan's work has also been on the My Mess: Pick of the Month twice now. PJO taking the month of January and The Heroes of Olympus series taking February. To top that, this isn't even the first time we've written on the Riordanverse, but the fourth! So really, for those of you who have ventured with us for a minute, you should have seen this coming.

The fact that this reboot is happening is mind blowing to me for many reasons. I have said it before and I will say it again: I never thought I'd get the reboots I wanted. When Fruits Basket got its reboot, I thought that was a dream come true, and it was. So much so, that I thought since THAT nerdy dream came true, I should just consider myself lucky and not expect much else to come off my nerdy wish list. Then Tower of God got a tv show. Now PJO is going to get their show. The powerful surge of satisfied nerd energy was so powerful upon hearing the news, that I made my household stop what they were doing, hold hands, and chant Eragon to put that reboot wish out into the universe. I'm trying Paolini, I'm trying. In all seriousness though, this truly is incredible. Hollywood is always down for a "good" reboot, except in the realm of fantasy it seems.
Despite the author's and fans' protests during the process of the first PJO movie adaptation, they still went through with it and made something that no one could ever forgive. For 10 years, we begged and pleaded, and finally, redemption is on the horizon. Back in December when negotiations were announced, I predicted that Disney would pick up the series for a television reboot based more closely on the books for their new streaming service. I am so happy to report that I was right. Limited details have been released, but the reboot has been confirmed to be a live action television series that will air on Disney+. They have also confirmed that the show will be based solely off the PJO five book series, with a minimum of a season per book. This is important to note since all of Rick Riordan's books are connected. I do imagine that if this show does well, then we will see the rest of his world come to life, which would be phenomenal for everyone involved. Disney+ would have a wealth of content to use, the fans will be happy, and Uncle Rick would finally get the adaptation his work deserves.
Speaking of Uncle Rick, fans will be happy to know that he will be heavily involved in every aspect of the show. This was something he fought for during the movie adaptations and lost. With that being said, it is great news because this means he will keep the story line as close to the books as possible. Even more than that, there were also comments made on Tuesday that confirmed that they have not started casting yet, but when they do, will be looking for actors the same age as the characters in the books. This was yet another huge point of contention during the movie adaptations, as the actors were all too old to pass for the kids' ages. Their solution was to change the timeline to fit the actors more realistically, thus changing the whole story. Well, there will be none of that this time!
Just as I was confident with the Fruits Basket reboot in 2019, I am confident again now with PJO's reboot. I think they are really listening to the fans, and are well aware of their need to have successful originals to keep up in the streaming service game. Since we know that they have not even started casting yet, I think it's safe to say we will not see PJO hit our screens until 2021. Some might be dismayed at the wait, but I say: TAKE YOUR TIME DISNEY. I want them to get this right, and I'm sure they want to get this right as well. The fandom has made it abundantly clear that they will not take failure twice.
That is our latest update on the PJO reboot, but don't worry, we will be keeping you updated throughout this whole magical process. Thank you so much for joining me this evening for some Nerdom. I hope you are having an incredible week. Happy hump day. Keep pushing through and I will see you all back this Sunday for The Mess. This Sunday is extra special, as it is our 50th post here on My Mess. I hope you will join me to celebrate! But in the mean time, as always, remember to stay safe, stay nerdy, and stay messy demigods.
